Corpus linguistics has advanced greatly over the past decades, as corpora have become ever more easily available and new methods of analysis and visualisation are developed. However, one aspect that has somewhat stagnated is specifying queries: here we are still stuck at the stage of the command-line interface.

This is about to change. Textbox is a native OS X application that features a graphical query interface that allows you to not only look for simple words, but to specify complex structures. It enables syntactic queries in a straight forward and easy-to-use way.

Textbox is being developed with more than 20 years of experience of designing corpus access software. It will be fast and efficient, able to cope with large data sets, but at the same time it will be a beautiful app that can be used easily.

Textbox will be available on the Mac Appstore in early 2014.

If you want to receive (very infrequent) status updates and the occasional question about what features you'd think would be useful or not to have in Textbox, you can sign up to the Textbox mailing-list. It goes without saying that your email address will only be used for this purpose, and you can of course unsubscribe at any time.
